Searching for an HVAC Contractor: Some Tips That Can Help You Get the Best

Searching for an HVAC Contractor: Some Tips That Can Help You Get the BestChoosing an HVAC contractor for your home isn’t like choosing which fast food you’re in the mood for. Because of the importance of proper installation, maintenance and repair of your cooling and heating equipment, it’s essential that you find the very best technician for your needs.

To expedite your search, we’ve compiled some tips for you to follow:

  • There’s a good chance that someone you know uses a reputable HVAC contractor. Hit up friends and family, and see if they can provide some names.
  • Solid references are a great indication of a contractor’s worth. Ask for a list and call each one to discuss his or her individual experience with the company.
  • If the technician is good at his or her job, an evaluation of your home will be performed. This will help ascertain your home’s overall energy efficiency and needs.
  • Unfortunately, many homes have cooling or heating systems that are either too small or too large for their needs. If you’re having an HVAC installation done, make sure your technician uses the Manual J load calculation software to properly size your new system.
  • There are many things that a good contractor should do. But one thing they should not do is provide an estimate for your work over the phone. An onsite inspection must be completed first.
  • If a technician tries to talk you out of purchasing high-efficiency equipment, this typically indicates that they haven’t kept up with advances in cooling and heating systems that could be beneficial to your Fresno area home.
  • The contractor should want to know about the performance and repair history of your cooling and heating equipment, to get a good idea of the equipment’s condition.
  • Getting multiple bids for a project is always a good idea, but don’t trust a company with an unusually low price. They may cut corners or have less experience.
  • All estimates should be done in writing to avoid any complications or questions that might arise once the job begins.
