Zoned Temperature Control — When You Can’t Keep The Entire Home Consistently Cool

zoned temperature control fresno californiaNow that the California sun is really warming things up, you’ll want to turn your air conditioning on to cool your house down. But take a moment to think about last summer. Was your entire home consistently cool or were some rooms too warm while others were too cool? What about the second floor? Was it too hot to sleep up there on some of the warmer nights?

Inconsistent cooling (and heating) is a common problem, but there’s something you can do about it. Consider using zoned temperature control, and you’ll notice a big difference in the comfort of your entire home. The problem is simple; one thermostat doesn’t give you enough control options. Imagine trying to control the lighting needs of six rooms with only one light switch. It can’t be done – and your single thermostat can’t control the cooling and heating needs of every room, either.

Rooms on the sunny side of the house heat up, requiring more cooling. Rooms on the shady side stay cooler and need less air conditioning. The second floor collects all the rising warm air and always needs more A/C than the rest of the house.

Here’s how zoned temperature control can keep you more comfortable:

First, your home is divided into several zones. Rooms with similar cooling needs are grouped and connected to an independent thermostats. The number of zones will depend upon your home’s size, layout and site orientation.

Each zone has motorized dampers controlled by its thermostat. In this way, zoned temperature control puts the cool air where it’s needed and only as much as needed.

When using zoned temperature control, you’ll find your A/C operating more efficiently and running less. You can set back temperatures in unused room, and accommodate the different temperature preferences of family members.
